Briefing - Oundle Medical Practice

In February 2021 the government published a White Paper which provides the blueprint for future NHS and social care reforms with a core aim of joining up health and care services to create an Integrated Care System.

Health record

Within the paper, whilst the organisational form of NHS providers will remain largely unchanged, local clinical commissioning groups will no longer exist and will be replaced by a new statutory Integrated Care Board (ICB), which together with the Integrated Care Partnership forms the Integrated Care System (ICS).

An ICS brings together hospital, community and mental health trusts, GPs and other primary care services with local authorities and other care providers to work together alongside local representatives and the voluntary and charity sector. Its purpose is to coordinate services, to plan in a way that improves population health and reduces inequalities between different groups and ultimately apply their collective strength to addressing their residents’ biggest health and care challenges.

What does this mean locally?

In light of the ICS developments, the NHSE national directive is that across the country the ICS boundaries should be the same as those of local authorities wherever possible. Oundle Medical Practice, which is located within North Northamptonshire, is currently part of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG and serves a population of largely North Northamptonshire residents. Under the new ICS arrangements and this directive, the practice and all its registered patients will transfer to Northamptonshire ICS when it is established. The change is intended to promote alignment of local place relationships and community service flows in North Northamptonshire.

The recent announcement that CCGs will continue to act as statutory bodies until 1 July 2022 means that the transfer of Lakeside Healthcare GP practice (Oundle) will now take place when the Northamptonshire ICS formally starts on 1 July 2022.
We will keep you updated on any further developments as we move towards this transfer date.

In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Northamptonshire CCG.
