Improvements to Oundle Medical Practice

As you will be aware, the practice is coming under increasing capacity pressures for two primary reasons:

• An increasing patient population driven by the increased number of current and future planned housing developments within the practice boundary
• An increasing workforce, primarily through the additional roles that will be funded via the Primary Care Network (PCN)

In order to help address these pressures, we plan to create dedicated workspace that can be used by GPs and other clinical staff for digital, telephone and Doctrinconsultations, video consultations and clinical administration.  This will release existing consulting rooms for face-to-faceappointments by providing capacity for use by clinicians who are providing other types of appointment or completing clinical administration duties.

At the same time, we are also making some exciting improvements to our reception area.  We are installing a new DDA (Discrimination Disability Act) compliant reception desk which will be brought forward into the existing waiting area.  At the same time, we will convert an adjoining office into a patient interview room which will provide privacy for patients wishing to discuss confidential matters with a receptionist.

In recent years we have explored a number of different options that align with NHS and CCG guidance, available funding and take account of the constraints of the building and the land on which it sits. This scheme is the first we have developed that takes account of all of these and goes some way to increasing capacity for patients and staff.

We are now working with our lead contractors, Princebuild to confirm the start date for the works, which is expected to be shortly after Easter. Princebuild are experienced in major construction projects, particularly in GP practices, and have recently completed a major redevelopment of our Yaxley practice.  Princebuild will ensure that disruption for our patients and staff is minimised as much as possible over the course of the works, which are expected to take around eight weeks to complete.
